Adolescence is a tumultuous time. The Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.) is pleased to offer a FREE in-person workshop for 7th to 10th grade teens who are in kinship and foster home placements in the Baltimore area. Teens will focus on connecting with other youth in similar families, promoting identification as a child in a kinship or foster family, providing a safe space to share feelings and thoughts about their life stories and experiences, and supporting their exploration of identity. Come ready to share experiences and eat some snacks with new friends!

All teens who attend the event will receive an Amazon gift card for their participation!

Registration is limited and will close Saturday, 12/6/25, at 11:59 pm.

This event is presented at no cost to attendees thanks to generous grants from the Aegon Transamerica Foundation and Whiting-Turner.

ABOUT THE FACILITATORS:

Shannon Wilson, LCPC, MEd earned a Master of Education in Counseling and Development from George Mason University and a post-master’s certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy from Grand Canyon University. Fun fact – her undergraduate studies and first career were in engineering. Shannon enjoys her work now in the mental health field and is living a purpose-driven life. Shannon is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maryland and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in New Jersey. Shannon is also a Board Approved Supervisor in Maryland and a Certified Nature Informed Therapist. As both an engineer and a helping professional, Shannon’s professional experience includes working in clinical and corporate settings. She enjoys optimizing operations in the areas of personnel management, organizational strategy, and process improvement, while honoring the heartbeat of any organization, its people. Shannon chose to work for C.A.S.E. due to alignment with its mission and culture. She is hopeful that her previous experience in mental health as both a therapist and a practice director will support C.A.S.E.’s ever growing clinical team to further the organization’s impact.

Rachel Wegner, LMSW, MSPH holds an MSW from the University of Michigan and a Master of Science in Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Rachel is the new Regional Manager of NPAC at C.A.S.E. Previously, Rachel worked in several clinical research settings and was the president of a small non-profit organization advocating for ethical and transparent adoption practices. Most recently, Rachel worked for the accrediting entity for intercountry adoption to accredit, monitor, and oversee adoption service providers in intercountry adoption. Rachel resides in northern Virginia with her spouse, two children, and two dogs.

Catey Yost was adopted at birth in Baltimore, Maryland. Catey was raised with her adoptive sister and a large community of international adoptees in a small town in southern Vermont. It was not until she returned back to Baltimore for her undergraduate degree at Goucher College where she took a course on child adolescent development covering identity development frameworks that she began thinking about her adoptive identity.

With experience in non-profit education, facilitation, volunteer, and knowledge management roles, Catey has engaged with many nonprofit organizations throughout neighborhoods and communities in Baltimore City. Catey strives to maintain welcoming and accessible learning environments that promote justice, critical thinking and conversation.
